I do a 0.5-mile jog almost every morning.
Since it’s so short I can rarely make an excuse not to do it. It takes less than 5 minutes. To reduce the production value, I always do it in a t-shirt and shorts regardless of the weather. In the winter it was nice because it gave me some cold exposure which I hear is healthy.
Another thing I heard is that moving reduces stress: “…the Journal of Neuroscience found that lateral eye movement (side-to-side) during self-generated forward motion (e.g., walking or cycling), has the effect of quietening the amygdala. In other words, you can hack your brain to break free from stress-induced tunnel vision by something as simple as taking a walk in open space.” forbes citing neuroscientist Andrew Huberman.
I do my more robust work-outs in the afternoon or early evenings when I’m feeling less crunched for time.
Before I started a morning bike ride or jog, coworkers used to remark jokingly at how sleepy I looked in the mornings. After I started bike commuting those remarks went away. The morning jog seems to have the same effect.
