Andrew Yang Has A Chance of Being Elected President in 2020 Because Bush Beat Gore (Op-ed, NSFW)

(Last Updated On: )

Crazy how this works:

  • Bush gets elected in 2000, barely beating Gore. It comes down to Florida where his brother, Jeb, is the fucking Governor!!!
  • Bush gets reelected because we are in two fucking wars. One of the few scenarios where “changing a horse in midstream” matters.
  • They lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq to start that second war. Colin Powell, arguably  the most appealing member of the entire Bush cabinet, and American Hero, declines a second term.
  • Hope and change candidate, Obama, first takes on McCain / Palin amidst a financial crisis driven largely by real estate speculation (Florida is one of the states hardest hit). Obama wins on a platform of it’s time to transcend past wrongs (the senselessness of the warhawk Bush/Cheney/ Rumsfeld years). Start by electing me.
  • Obama and his secretary of state, H. Clinton, continue the hawkishness of the Bush years, and literally support the implosions of Egypt, Libya, Syria, and Yemen, all while turning a blind eye to human rights abuses in Saudi Arabia.
  • Four years later he easily snuffs out centrist Republican, and high school bully, Mitt Romney. Romney’s message is to use his business experience as president (which includes shutting down facilities to save $$$, WTF).
  • The DNC attempted to anoint Hillary as a successor to Obama, but the DNC’s intentional undermining of Bernie coming to light, and Russian trolls (not bots) effectively stoked a “Bernie or bust” flame, influencing just enough of a margin that Hillary could not be elected.
  • In comes trump. “Mexicans took your jobs, build that wall,” “crooked Hillary” all amplified by Russian trolls and a populace still hungover from 2008 financial crisis and chronic health issues caused by the modern american lifestyle. (It’s automation, not Mexicans or even outsourcing that are taking jobs in case you were wondering)
  • Start silver linings: #MeToo is only possible with Trump presidency. Trump is a misogynist and ill informed about DC. Big whoop. Maybe, actually a good thing.  Essentially his office is defined by what it doesn’t do. The Wall isn’t happening, but NASA is getting funding. Trump is fucking up environmental protections (a horrible legacy to leave behind), and he has critically undermined the supreme court — obviously these things do matter, but Dems are poised to majorly correct this.
  • Because of the aforementioned DNC efforts to undermine Bernie, this year a debate threshold of 65,000 unique donors with at least 200 donors from 20 states is set.
  • In come Dems 2019, silver linings 2.0. Fucking all star lineup of rational people with great ideas and squeaky clean records. Perhaps because of the new debate threshold, more minorities and women running than ever before, and they all actually have a shot. If the Dems can inoculate themselves from Russian trolls and corporate crony buffoonery, they will take the White House in 2020.
  • Within that field is one candidate with a big idea that ignores Trump and moves America forward with human centered capitalism. Andrew Yang wants to give all us citizens $1,000 a month (a Universal Basic Income). Years ago, this would have been an unthinkable mainstream policy idea, but thanks to the DNC debate thresholds, Andrew Yang and his big idea are in (the DNC debates at least). Unlike Trump who was propelled to power on a wave of fear, Dems a la Yang 2020 can win on a wave of positively radical change. Andrew Yang only has a shot at implementing his plans because Bush beat Gore back in 2000, which led to a domino effect of circumstances that make him a remarkably viable candidate.
