Try This Writing Prompt

(Last Updated On: )

Here is an extremely fun writing prompt I used for a short story back in June 2012.   “She closed the book, placed it on the table, and finally, decided to walk through the door.”
Simply use this prompt to write a short story – then send it my way. I’d love to read it.

Here’s mine:

She closed the book, placed it on the table, and finally, decided to walk through the door.
“Stop!” They pleaded as they pounded on the three inch thick aluminum silica window.
The cure was not coming. No one was. Each pore on her body produced a tiny drop of blood which gave her skin a red sheen and an infuriatingly itchy derma. Marcie was not one to scratch or complain. They had all been exposed. She was just the first to develop symptoms.
Part of the ISA’s training shows Imperial Japanese footage of undesirables in airlocks; films where helpless men, women and animals vomit up their own lungs and explode their eyes. The silence of those films still gives her chills, as without atmosphere one cannot scream even while one writhes in the agony of inverse pressurization.
To her, at this moment, exposure to space is perfect and instant. Cool relief on her bleeding skin. She would breathe out before finalizing the manual door override. This would save her lungs from bursting and give her 0.08 seconds to see the earth for one last time before her eyes crystalize.
Humans are resilient and she despised the idea of dissolving in a petri dish like the rats they were testing on.
One more gauge to check, one more lever and, “what a good book…” she mused internally.

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHH WHHOOOOOOOOOOOOSHH.

End.
